Blog on Gators QB set up for first down or fumble?

As a University of Florida alumna, I root for the Gators every chance I get. So, when I spied an article on newyorktimes.com about a man who is devoting a blog to Gators Quarterback Tim Tebow, I couldn't click fast enough. But before I finished the first paragraph, I got to thinking: This could be dangerous.

See, Dan Shanoff, a blogger with another sports Web site, created the Tebow site to be what Shanoff calls hyper-topical blogging. This means that the blog is all Tebow all the time. First, is there enough information on the guy to sustain that? Perhaps when college football season gets under way (the Gators kick off during Labor Day weekend). But isn't a hyper-topical blog kind of stalkerish? Or if you prefer a more diplomatic term, paparazzi-ish?

Another thing I wonder: Will Shanoff be all up in Tebow's grill? In other words, how's he going to collect his info? Will he be there in the locker room at halftime or post-game? Or is the info going to come secondhand, filtered from other published reports, as many blogs -- this one included -- are wont to do?

Shanoff addresses that question in the NYT piece by saying he will "bring a veteran journalist’s sensibility for credible, thoughtful analysis," but he adds that he will be mostly watching the games from home.

So far, the Tebow blog has plenty of posts but no comments. Perhaps that will change with the Times' publicity, but what will be most interesting is how successful Shanoff's experiment in hyper-topical blogging is. I'm also unsure of how experimental it is. A quick Google search for "Brad Pitt blog" returned a result for Pitt Watch, which keeps close tabs on Brangelina.

No ads yet on the Tebow blog, but I suspect Gatorade will be calling Shanoff soon.
